Abstract Structure
Abstracts should use the headings below and must not exceed 2300 characters (including spaces).
- Background: This section can include aims, research questions or hypotheses as appropriate.
- Methods: Please state clearly any methods used, including analysis methods.
- Results: Please clearly state the results of the submitted studies. Appropriate statistical values must be reported for quantitative studies, including p values, confidence intervals and/or effect sizes for key findings. Note: For registered protocols, this section may be omitted.
- Conclusions: The Conclusion section must provide the main transferrable/generalisable message resulting from the research reported. Please also state clearly the implications of the findings for policy, practice or further research.
Symposium Proposal Instructions
Symposium proposals will be reviewed by the Scientific Program Committee and you will be notified in the same way as other abstracts. Symposia include a minimum of four oral presentations from different authors on a related topic, followed by a discussion.
To propose a symposium you must provide:
- An abstract for the symposium, which summarises the symposium topic as a whole and integrate the individual contributions. This must be no more than 250 words.
- A SINGLE document file (.doc or .docx format) containing ALL of the individual abstracts for each participant in the proposed symposium, with one abstract per page. Please follow the submission guidelines for an oral presentation with regard to the appropriate format of the abstract.
Assessment process
We operate a blinded peer-review for all abstracts. Reviewers judge abstracts on the quality of the content. Abstracts will be assessed and evaluated by reviewers based on the following criteria:
- Relevance to the field: Likelihood of generating delegate interest and fit with the aims and scope of the Australasian Society of Behavioural Health and Medicine.
- Strength of methodology/design/reporting: Aims, methods, and sample are sufficiently described to judge merit/appropriateness. Results are credible in relation to aims and methods. Clear summary of the research findings is included.
- Clarity of writing: Quality of written description. Information on rationale and aims provided. Explicitly states relevance to behavioural medicine. Conclusions are reasonable and clear.
ASBHM welcomes submissions of registered study protocols, registered reports, and replication studies. Decisions to accept abstracts will not be made on the basis of statistical significance or “novelty”.
