We currently have opportunities to undertake PhDs on two grant-funded
projects, each with a University of Newcastle (UON) scholarship
available, covering full tuition and a living allowance.
Project 1: Community Managed Organisations and preventive care for
chronic disease conditions. This project will explore the potential and
current activities of Community Managed Organisations across NSW to
incorporate preventive care for chronic disease risk behaviours into the
support they provide to mental health consumers. The focus of the
project is understanding what models of delivery, as well as
infrastructure and resources, may facilitate preventive care in these
settings.
Project 2: Implementing the Provision of Care to Address Chronic Disease
Risk Behaviours in Community Mental Health Services. This research
project addresses the need to facilitate the adoption of evidence-based
behaviour change strategies and support for people with mental illness
into routine practice. It will involve the use of evidenced-based,
clinical practice change strategies to support the implementation of AAR
(Assess, Advise, and Refer) preventive care within community mental
health services in the Hunter New England Local Health District.
